Measure your shotgun rib

Select the correct training aid for your gun!

Before purchasing, it is essential that you know the rib size required. It is sometimes possible to lookup this information from the manufacturer but the safest way is to measure it yourself. See the instructions below:

  1. Select a Flat Section: Choose a flat section of the shotgun rib for accurate measurement. This section should be approximately 75mm forward of the breech. Ensure there are no irregularities or protrusions on the selected section.
  2. Gather Measurement Tools: Collect the necessary tools for measurement. You can use a set of calipers, a tape measure, or even a ruler. Ensure the chosen tool provides precise measurements.
  3. Prepare the Shotgun: Make sure the shotgun is unloaded and safe to handle. Double-check that there are no cartridges in the chamber.
  4. Position the Tool: Place the measuring tool perpendicular to the rib, ensuring it sits flush against the flat surface of the rib. Ensure there is no angle or tilt in the tool to avoid inaccurate measurements.
  5. Take the Measurement: Depending on the tool you are using:
    • Calipers: If using calipers, gently close the jaws around the rib to measure its width. Take note of the measurement displayed on the caliper.
    • Tape Measure or Ruler: If using a tape measure or ruler, align the starting point of the tool with one edge of the rib and extend it to the opposite edge. Read the measurement where the other edge of the rib aligns with the tool.
  6. Record the Measurement: Once you have obtained the width measurement of the shotgun rib, record the value. Ensure to note down the measurement accurately to refer to it later.
  7. Proceed with Purchase: With the accurate measurement of the shotgun rib, you can confidently proceed with the purchase of the shotgun home training aid, ensuring compatibility and effectiveness.
